Sing Out Strong is a multi-year community-based project in which we reach out to ordinary people in our community and commission them to write texts on activist themes that resonate with them personally.
This season, we uplift Indigenous Voices, in anticipation of White Snake Projects’ upcoming production of Brent Michael Davids (Mohican, Munsee/Lenape), which explores the genocidal founding of our country.
Our poet-in-residence, Lokosh (Chickasaw Nation) is joined by Jasmine Goodspeed (Hassanamisco Nipmuc), in contributing texts which have been paired with composers responding to a national call, making songs which will tour Boston’s neighborhoods.
This concert will feature Malawey’s commissioned piece for mezzo-soprano and piano titled “the last buffalo in Oklahoma,” setting text by Lokosh.
